Learning about the types of transport trucks

Box trucks and delivery vans

Box trucks are medium sized vehicles with a covered cargo area and fold up rear wall, although some models can have a tail lift. These trucks serve local delivery companies along with moving businesses and small business owners.  Due to their size, they are suitable for urban markets and offer good cargo volume.

Semi trailer trucks

A semi trailer truck which people call an 18 wheeler consists of a tractor unit that connects to and moves along the trailer. These are long distance transport trucks and they are capable of hauling the volume of general commodities. It makes them efficient for changing trailers whenever the need arises in different shipping services.

Refrigerated trucks

Refrigerated trucks known as reefers serve to move sensitive temperature products including food items and medical supplies. They both have insulated compartments and/or cooling to preserve certain temperatures in their carrying areas. The temperature control systems are sometimes adjustable to meet the needs of different products and the prevailing climate.

Flatbed trucks

The open bed on these trucks helps you move oversized things easily. These trucks move construction supplies and heavy machinery because they need direct access to their open cargo space. The construction is an open top which makes it easy for transportation with the help of cranes or forklifts.

Tanker trucks

Tanker trucks are meant to carry fluids or gases and any other fluid materials.  They can all transport loads ranging from milk and water to fuel and chemicals. Many tanker trucks are designed to carry several products simultaneously, with each product being contained separately in the truck.

Car carrier trucks

Car carrier trucks are intended for transporting several cars at once. These trucks boast of double tier parking lot areas and channelized ramps for loading and off loading.  They are mainly used to transport new vehicles to dealers and transfer used cars from one place to another.

Livestock transport trucks

Most carriers used in moving animals are meant for this purpose since animals require portage over long distances. Some of these trucks have provision for ventilation, source of water and even the manner in which the animals are loaded. To a certain extent, their design takes into account the welfare of animals for transportation purposes.

Concrete mixer trucks

Concrete transit mixers deliver freshly mixed concrete to a construction site. These vehicles have a mixer drum that rotates to maintain the concrete mix and make it workable even during transportation. The special design enables the precise delivery of the concrete, and at the same time, the quality of the concrete is not compromised.
